Feeling secure

Remembering that you're lucky to have a roof over your head, a warm bed and enough to eat can help reassure your subconscious so you can fall asleep faster - these are things that seem normal, but too often we forget how lucky we are, because it's not the case for everyone!

If you practice a religion, don't hesitate to pray, it will reinforce the sensation of protection and security.

Feeling comfortable in bed

Try and feel comfortable in your bed without being too hot (except if you like it that way). Cultivate a sense of comfort by wrapping yourself up in your sheets or by imagining a pleasant scenery.

A pleasant little ritual before going to bed

Establishing a ritual will allow you to reprogram your brain and send it signals that it's time to go to bed and fall asleep. Try and find a relaxing ritual that is pleasant and will ease you into a relaxed state:

- Read a book (as least exciting as possible, and nothing about current events!)

- Pray if you are a practicing believer (if you are a non practicing believer we advise you to try out praying anyway, it's very efficient)

- Think about people you love or admire

- Write (slowly)

- Colour

- Listen to relaxing music

- Take a shower / a hot bath

- Drink some herbal tea

Little things to do to fully benefit from your meditation exercises

- Remember a pleasant moment: a holiday memory, the face of one of your children, an accomplishment, anything positive!

- Enjoy the experience, make it last ten seconds or more

- Pay special attention to emotions and sensations that appear in your mind and allow them to reverberate within you. Don't hesitate to indulge in them fully.

- This meditation is supposed to increase oxytocin production, also called the love hormone! It comes from Buddha's Brain, a book about the scienftific approach to different kinds of meditation.
